This unit applies to current, junior or aspiring athletes who want to pursue a career in golf at a regional, State, Territory or National level. Those undertaking this unit should be a scholarship holder with a regional, State, Territory or National Institute of Sport, a member of a State, Territory or national team or squad or a member of a second tier national competition. |

Identify the role of the coach or mentor and support staff regarding tactics for training, preparation, game situations and the golfing environment. |
2. Assess competition conditions for a game. | 2.1. Assess the environment, and confirm it meets golf rules, regulations and policies in consultation with the coach or mentor. 2.2. Assess resources and equipment according to golf rules, regulations and policies. 2.3. Take appropriate action in response to unsuitable conditions. |
3. Implement tactics and strategies. | 3.1. Apply agreed tactics and strategies to counter own strengths and weaknesses as appropriate. 3.2. Adopt psychological approaches identified in pre-game preparation. 3.3. Implement identified game plans in a safe manner, according to golf rules, regulations and policies, relevant legislation and organisational policies and procedures. 3.4. Monitor and refine game plans, tactics and strategies according to the stage and situation of the game. 3.5. Maintain effective communication with coach or mentor in order to develop performance. |
4. Participate in post-game analysis. | 4.1. Review A-Grade tactics and strategies practiced throughout activities and games, and identify strengths and areas requiring improvement in consultation with the coach or mentor. 4.2. Debrief on rounds and analyse own strengths and weaknesses in relation to tactics and strategies for future referral. 4.3. Analyse statistics for future referral. |

Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit | Evidence of the following is essential: utilises knowledge and interpretation of A-Grade tactics and strategies of golf, and relevant rules, regulations and policies to develop and follow game plans, and apply the tactics and strategies in competitive situations determines own psychological approaches and prepares to apply tactics and strategies accordingly communicates with colleagues, coach or mentor, officials and support staff throughout activities and games, and responds to feedback reviews own performance to identify strengths and areas requiring improvement or modifications. |
Context of and specific resources for assessment | Assessment must ensure performance of the A-Grade tactics and strategies of golf applicable to agreed game plan to achieve a handicap of 5 to 12 under competition conditions over a minimum of five rounds on a minimum of three 18 hole golf courses and achieves a score in the range of 50 to 60 on the National Skills Test demonstrate competency and consistency of performance. Assessment must also ensure access to: golf training and competition facilities a coach or mentor to instruct players suitably qualified golfing officials and support staff technological aids and equipment resources and information outlining the A-Grade tactics and strategies of golf rules and regulations of golf such as official golf publications and the Australian Sports Commission Harassment-free Sport policy current organisational policies and procedures that impact on the conduct of drills, activities, games and competitions. |
Method of assessment | A range of assessment methods should be used to assess practical skills and knowledge. The following examples are appropriate for this unit: observation of performance of A-Grade tactics and strategies of golf during drills, activities, games and competitions oral or written questioning to assess knowledge of the application of the A-Grade tactics and strategies of golf third-party reports from coaches or professionals detailing performance. Industry has determined that this unit must be assessed with the following units: SISSGLF201A Perform the A-Grade skills of golf SISSGLF203A Interpret and apply the rules of golf at the A-Grade level. Holistic assessment with other units relevant to the industry sector, workplace and job role is recommended. |
